River Past Audio Capture is an easy to use application that lets you capture audio from your microphone or other sources such as line-In, or speakers to WAV, MP3, audio-only AVI, and WMA files (additional formats supported with booster packs). Also lets you record from a DV camcorder or VCR connected to 1394 port.
Formats Supported include: AIFF/AIFC Apple Audio, MPEG-4 Audio, MPEG Layer-3, MPEG Audio, OGG Vorbis Audio, RealAudio, Waveform, Windows Media Audio.
This program has a very simple and intuitive user interface where you can select source (sound card, port, etc), volume level (automatic, manually set), format, compressor, sample rate, channels, bit rate, and destination file, or keep the default values.
Since it records from your speakers, this application can also be used as a universal audio converter (with a loss in quality, and real time conversion) but it is a good option if you don't want to spend a lot of money buying a more complex audio converter. If you want to test this software, a free trial is available for download.
System Requirements:
Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows ME, Windows 2000, and Windows XP.
